KidsInclusive respects clients and families and take their rights very seriously. We aim to provide the best and most appropriate service possible, treating clients and their families with dignity and respect. The following list of Rights and Responsibilities has been written to support the development of a strong professional and family partnership for children, youth and family members who attend KidsInclusive.
In the following list ‘you’ refers to the child/youth or family.
While involved with KidsInclusive you have the right to:
- Receive quality care and service in a welcoming, clean and safe environment
- Request service in the official language of your choice (English or French); wherever possible we will accommodate a request for service in French
- Be provided the support, time and opportunity to participate fully in discussions and decision-making regarding your care
- Be treated with respect and in a way that promotes dignity, autonomy, independence and privacy
- Be treated fairly, courteously and with respect for your language, culture, religion, sexual orientation, values and beliefs
- Receive information, express your opinions and receive answers to your questions about your care and our services in a way that you can understand and without fear of reprisal
- Have your efforts and accomplishments positively acknowledge by KidsInclusive staff
- Give or refuse consent to any proposed care and be advised of the risks and benefits of the care being provided
- Have your appointments start and end on time and for centre staff to provide a timely response to your questions
- Have your personal health information kept confidential
- Access your health record and know how the information in your health record is used
While at KidsInclusive you have the responsibility to:
- Provide accurate information relating to developmental, medical and personal history including legal/custody status
- Participate in care, goal setting and home activity suggestions
- Treat KidsInclusive staff and other clients with courtesy and respect; acknowledge the efforts and hard work of others
- Respect KidsInclusive property and ensure the security of your personal property when at the centre
- Listen and respect the opinions of others, knowing you have the right to disagree
- Attend appointments with all children less than 12 years of age. For clients 13-19 it is the expectation that parents are prompt for the arrival and pick up of their child.
- Attend all appointments on time and call if you know that you will be late
- Notify the centre in advance when you have to cancel an appointment
- Cancel your appointment if you are not feeling well
- Clean your hands when you arrive at Hotel Dieu Hospital
- Supervise your children while visiting KidsInclusive
- Create a suitable and safe work space for KidsInclusive staff when they visit your home
- Provide us with the information we need to ensure your health and safety when visiting our centre
- Share any questions or concerns about services in a timely manner so that staff may address your concerns
