Before you arrive

Please let us know if you prefer services in French as soon as possible. In every circumstance, if available, your request will be honoured. (Veuillez nous informer le plus tôt possible de votre désir d’être servi en français. Dans tous les cas, nous serons heureux de donner suite à votre demande si des ressources sont disponibles.)

Please let us know if you need a professional interpreter for communication when the appointment is booked. KidsInclusive has immediate, 24/7 access to a telephone translation service available to you at no charge during your visit or if you are speaking on the phone to us.

Avoid wearing scented body products or perfume on the day of your visit – Hotel Dieu Hospital is a scent-safe environment.

Allow yourself time to park and find KidsInclusive located on the first floor of Hotel Dieu Hospital.

What you should bring to your appointment

Health Insurance (OHIP) Card if your child’s appointment is with one of our doctors.

Any forms or reports as requested in the letter you received from KidsInclusive or requested when the appointment was booked.

Please bring your child to the appointment; along with any special equipment your child uses such as a wheelchair, seating inserts, or braces.

For physiotherapy and occupational therapy appointments make sure your child is dressed in casual, comfortable clothing and has appropriate footwear.

When you arrive

Please use the hand sanitizer available at all entrances at Hotel Dieu Hospital.

KidsInclusive is located on the 1st floor just past the Children’s Outpatient Centre. Please ask at the Information Desk in the main lobby if you are unsure where we are.

Please enter the Reception Room at KidsInclusive and let the receptionist know you have arrived for your appointment. The receptionist may have forms for you to fill out while you wait.

Once you have checked in please feel free to have a seat in our waiting room. A play area is available; however, parents/guardians must supervise their own children.

If your appointment is with a KidsInclusive clinician at one of our other sites; the clinician or appointment secretary will provide you with the location details prior to the appointment.

Please remember that Hotel Dieu is a teaching hospital and KidsInclusive believes strongly that we have a role in educating new clinicians. If you have any questions about the involvement of learners in your care, please ask to speak with your therapist or physician.

What to expect during your child’s first visit

At your first appointment, you will meet with one or more of our staff who will conduct an assessment of your child’s needs. In order to determine what your child’s strengths and needs are, we’ll ask you several questions. Your answers will help us determine the best way to help you and your child. If you are already involved with another organization, you are welcome to invite a representative to attend the assessment with you. To help you think about your child’s strengths and goals we encourage you to take a look a the F-Words framework.

After the assessment, we’ll discuss what we can do. If we can help, we will recommend the most appropriate service(s) for your child.

Although there are waiting lists for some of our services, our staff will make every effort to begin treatment with your child as soon as possible. If other community programs or agencies are available to help your child, we will provide you with the names of those organizations and their contact information.

Your input as a parent/guardian is vital. We encourage you to share any comments, questions or concerns you have about your child with us.
