Preschool Speech and Language programs across Ontario are funded by the Ministry of Community, Children and Social Services. Early Expressions is the local preschool speech and language program for the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington area. On May 1, 2023, KidsInclusive will assume responsibility for the delivery of this program in the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington area. Early Expressions Preschool Speech and Language services are provided by the following community partners:
- KFL&A Public Health
- Kingston Health Sciences Centre – Hotel Dieu Hospital Site
- Kidsinclusive Centre for Child and Youth Development
Who can receive services?
Early Expressions provides services for children from birth to the end of junior kindergarten. Referrals for Early Expressions must be made by the beginning of November in the year a child is eligible to attend junior kindergarten.
What services are offered?
- Assessments
- Parent and caregiver training
- Group therapy with children and caregivers
- Home programming with specific goals for the child
- Consultation with parents, caregivers, daycares, classroom teachers, and other professionals
- Individual therapy with a Speech Language Pathologist or Speech Language Assistant
- School transition support
- Community outreach with parents such as Ontario Early Years Centres (OEYCs), Parenting and Family Literacy Centres, and Food for You, Food for Two programs
- Services are available in French
Does your child need a referral?
If you, your family doctor, and or child care provider have concerns about your child’s speech and language skills, you may decide to make a referral to Early Expressions Preschool Speech and Language Program.
By making a referral to this program, you are requesting a speech and language assessment by a speech-language pathologist.
If you are unsure if a referral is needed, please review Communication Milestones for your child’s age. Looking at the milestones will help you decide if a referral is needed. If you need help, call Early Expressions at 613-544-3400 ext 2087.
