Neuromuscular Clinic

The Neuromuscular Team provides multidisciplinary assessment and intervention for children with neuromuscular conditions (conditions affecting muscles and nerves) such as muscular dystrophy, as well as other related conditions that are progressive in nature.

The Neuromuscular Team consists of a developmental pediatrician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker and a child life specialist. They follow the child’s health and therapy needs from diagnosis until his or her transition to adult services. Their goals are to optimize health, mobility and function, to provide assistance in obtaining specialized equipment for both home and school, and to make recommendations for recreational programs.

Children are monitored through annual or semiannual clinics with additional intervention occurring as needed. Families also receive education, emotional support and assistance in accessing financial or other community resources.
