I believe my child isn’t meeting developmental milestones. Where do I begin?

Welcome to the SmartStart Hub – a one-stop shop to help families find the help their child may require. Every SmartStart Hub is a clear point of entry to child development services for parents and caregivers who have concerns about the child’s development.

Kids are eligible from birth to age 19, or 21 if they are in school and live in Ontario. You do not need a diagnosis if you don’t have one.

The process is simple. Just contact us via phone or email listed below. SmartStart Hubs work with families to find the services and supports for the child and family that will meet their goals.

We recognize that each family’s life and experience is unique, and that families are experts on their child’s abilities and needs. Services and programs are informed by evidence and best practices, and focus on the child’s and family’s strengths in a friendly, supportive and culturally safe environment.

Families are also encouraged to use the Early Years Check-In tool to quickly identify any concerns you may have about how your child is developing.

SmartStart Hubs are located in every region of the province. At KidsInclusive, we serve as Ontario’s SmartStart Hub for KFLA and LLG. Contact us at 613 544 3400, ext 2078 or email us using the form below. **Please note this is not a referral form. Our General Referral forms can be accessed on our “How to Refer” page.

Partners for Planning, which empowers peoples with disabilities and their families with free resources to create meaningful lives and secure futures, firmly rooted in community and;

CanChild’s F-words Knowledge Hub, which provides focus on six key areas of child development and builds upon the World Health Organizations (WHO’s) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework. The ICF framework shows how body structure and function, activity, participation, environmental factors and personal factors are interrelated and equally influence our health and functioning. This holistic approach encourages us to focus on factors that are important to all children’s development – their participation, activities, and environment.

Recognizing that no one factor is more important than another, CanChild hopes to encourage people in the childhood disability field to adopt this way of thinking and apply these concepts in their work with children with disabilities and their families.
